Guides are written by Sara Linwood. We don't accept payment for coverage, and no brand reviews guides before publication.

Research and testing

Every recommendation is based on hands-on growing, horticultural references and, for health or toxicity claims, sources such as the ASPCA, RHS and university extension services. We give numbers (ratios, days, pH, foot-candles) rather than vague advice, and say clearly when evidence is limited.

Updates and corrections

Guides are reviewed at least every 12 months. The "Last updated" date changes only when content meaningfully changes. Report errors via our contact page.
